Garrett - Project Manager
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Hopewell Junction, NY right where the Parkway and I-84 intersect in southern Dutchess county. The family has been there for the past three generations.
How long have you been in the industry?
I have been in the solar industry since I graduated college in 2009 and have been with Hudson Solar ever since!
Where did you go to school and what did you study?
I went to SUNY Potsdam not knowing what to study, but in my first semester decided Geology was it. Later on I added Environmental Science. The first Geology class I took was Environmental Geology with an amazing professor/mentor and from there I was hooked. My wife and I have matching glass rock collection cabinets.
What inspires you about solar?
What inspires me about solar is the fact that I’m taking part in the action of doing something that can make a change for people and the environment. It may stem from a class I took called Global Climate Change… All we did was talk talk talk and talk about this country did this and this country did nothing so by the end of the semester I realized we are doing nothing by talking about it. Lets do something! So the April before I graduated I called up a local solar company “Hudson valley Clean Energy“(before the name change) to get an interview and for some reason they hired me on the spot! I had no solar experience other than a week long class I took in western MA. After being in the field installing roof and ground mounts for the past 6+ years I have seen a lot and every part of our installation processes.
What is your favorite hobby or what you do outside of work?
Outside of work I try my best to keep active, whether it’s cycling, mountain biking, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, kayaking, soccer, or camping. Yea I think I gave up running for good.
